อาคารสูง : อาคารที่บุคคลอาจเข้าอยู่ หรือเข้าใช้สอยได้ที่มีความสูงตั้งแต่ยี่สิบสามเมตรขึ้นไป การวัดความสูงของอาคารให้วัดจากระดับพื้นดินที่ก่อสร้างถึงพื้นดาดฟ้า สำหรับอาคารทรงจั่วหรือปั้นหยาให้วัดจากระดับพื้นดินที่ก่อสร้างถึงยอดผนังของชั้นสูงสุด ( พรบ.ควบคุมอาคาร พ.ศ.2522 )

 

อาคารขนาดใหญ่พิเศษ : อาคารที่ก่อสร้างขึ้นเพื่อใช้พื้นที่อาคารหรือส่วนใดของอาคารเป้นที่อยู่อาศัยหรือประกอบกิจการประเภทเดียวหรือหลายประเภท โดยมีพื้นที่รวมทุกชั้นในหลังเดียวกันตั้งแต่หนึ่งหมืนตารางเมตรขึ้นไป ( พรบ.ควบคุมอาคาร พ.ศ.2522 )

 

อาคารสาธารณะ  : อาคารที่ใช้เพื่อประโยชน์ในการชุมนนุมคนได้โดยทั่วไป เพื่อกิจกรรมทางราชการ การเมือง การศึกษา การศาสนา การสังคม การนันทนาการ หรือการพาณิชยกรรม เช่นโรงมหรสพ หอประชุม โรงแรม โรงพยาบาล สถานศึกษา หอสมุด สนามกีฬากลางแจ้ง สนามกีฬาในร่ม  ตลาด ห้างสรรพสินค้า ศูนย์การค้า สถานบริการ ท่าอากาศยาน อุโมงค์ สะพาน อาคารจอดรถ สถานีรถ ท่าจอดเรือ โป๊ะจอดเรือ สุสาน ฌาปนสถาน ศาสนสถาน เป็นต้น ( กฎกระทรวง ฉบับที่ 55 พ.ศ.2543 )

 

อาคารพิเศษ : อาคารที่ต้องการมาตรฐานความมั่นคงแข็งแรง และความปลอดภัยเป็นพิเศษ เช่นอาคารดังต่อไปนี้

ก) โรงมหรสพ อัฒจันทร์ หอประชุม หอสมุด หอศิลป์ พิพิธภัณฑสถาน หรือศาสนสถาน

ข) อู่เรือ คานเรือ หรือท่าจอดเรือ สำหรับเรือขนาดใหญ่เกิน 100ตันกรอส

ค) อาคารหรือสิ่งที่สร้างขึ้นสูงเกิน 15เมตร หรือสะพาน หรืออาคารหรือโครงสร้างช่วงหลังคาช่วงหนึ่งเกิน 10เมตร หรือลักษณะโครงสร้างที่อาจก่อให้เกิดภยันอันตรายต่อสาธารณชนได้

ง) อาคารที่เก็บวัสดุไวไฟ วัสดุระเบิด หรือวัสดุกระจายแพร่พิษ หรือรังสีตามกฎหมาย ว่าด้วยการนั้น ( กฎกระทรวง ฉบับที่ 55 พ.ศ.2543 )

 

อาคารขนาดใหญ่ : อาคารที่มีพื้นที่รวมกันทุกชั้น หรือชั้นหนึ่งชั้นใดในหลังเดียวกันเกิน 2000ตารางเมตร หรืออาคารที่มีความสูงตั้งแต่ 15.00เมตรขึ้นไป และมีพื้นที่รวมกันทุกชั้นหรือชั้นหนึ่งชั้นใดในหลังเดียวกันเกิน 1000ตารางเมตร แต่ไม่เกิน 2000ตารางเมตร การวัดความสูงของอาคารให้วัดจากระดับพื้นดินที่ก่อสร้างถึงพื้นดาดฟ้าสำหรับอาคารทรงจั่วหรือปั้นหยา ให้วัดจากระดับพื้นดินที่ก่อสร้างถึงยอดผนังของชั้นสูงสุด ( กฎกระทรวง ฉบับที่ 55 พ.ศ.2543 )

 

พื้น : พื้นที่ของอาคารที่บุคคลเข้าอยู่หรือเข้าใช้สอยได้ภายในขอบเขตของคานหรือตงที่รับพื้น หรือภายในพื้นนั้น หรือภายในขอบเขตของผนังอาคารรวมทั้งเฉลียงหรือระเบียงด้วย ( กฎกระทรวง ฉบับที่ 55 พ.ศ.2543 )

ฝา : ส่วนก่อสร้างในด้านตั้งซึ่งกั้นแบ่งพื้นภายในอาคารให้เป็นห้องๆ ( กฎกระทรวง ฉบับที่ 55 พ.ศ.2543 )

ผนัง : ส่วนก่อสร้างในด้านตั้งซึ่งกั้นด้านนอกหรือระหว่างหน่วยของอาคารให้เป็นหลังหรือเป็นหน่วยแยกออกจากกัน ( กฎกระทรวง ฉบับที่ 55 พ.ศ.2543 )
